Most of you haven’t been following the John Friend/Anusara scandal (“scandal”), and I won’t bore you with the details, but essentially what we have is a case of someone being found out to be human. The most serious allegation against him, in my mind, is that he did some weird financial things to his employees, the least serious allegation is that he leads a coven of sexual-healing obsessed wiccans. Somewhere on that continuum are stories of him sleeping with employees and students, and if course this is what the majority of the yoga community seems to be flipping the fuck out over. “A sexual relationship between a teacher and student could NEVER be consensual!!!” Really? Well, maybe… but like Chuck Klosterman says there’s always someone with the upper hand. Always. I’m not saying that John Friend was right, but he wasn’t implicitly wrong, either. About that. Anyway…
